Academic Career
Harry Anastasiou holds a Ph.D. in the Political Sociology of Peace
and Conflict from the Union Institute & University, Cincinnati,
Ohio, and a Doctorandus Degree in Social Science and Philosophy
focusing on Global Technology and Social Change from the Free University
of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He earned a Master of Arts in Social
Science from the University of Toronto, Canada, and a Bachelor of
Arts in Political Science and Philosophy from Geneva College, Pennsylvania.
Anastasiou is a core faculty member of the Conflict Resolution Graduate
Program and of International Studies. For over a decade he has played
a leading role in the development and growth of a citizen-based
peace movement in the ethnically divided island of Cyprus and in
Greek-Turkish relations. He has also been a participating member
of "The Harvard Study Group," a high-level bi-communal
think tank comprised of policy leaders, negotiators, and academics
working on ideas and approaches for the peaceful resolution of the
Cyprus problem. As an academic, he has published numerous articles
on peace and conflict issues, focusing in particular on Cyprus,
Nationalism, and Peacebuilding. Anastasiou has worked in Canada,
the U.S., and Cyprus.
